Farmers' Protest: Deadlock Continues As Ninth Round Of Talks Concludes, Next Meet On Jan 19

The latest, ninth round of talks between the government officials and the farmers was held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi on Friday and now the next round of meetings will be held on January 19.

Even after the continuous 51 days of protests by thousands of farmers against the three recent farm laws and nine rounds of negotiations between the farmers’ representatives and the central government, the deadlock remains inconclusive.

The latest, ninth round of talks between the government officials and the farmers was held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi on Friday and now the next round of meetings will be held on January 19.

As per the early reports, the farmers’ representatives remained adamant on their demands during the meeting with the union government today and continued to press for the repeal of the farm laws.

After the meeting, the spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Rakesh Tiket, once again made it clear that they are firm on their demand to repeal the law. He said, "We will not go to the committee of the court, we will talk to the government itself. Our priority will be the MSP. The government is running away from the MSP."

Responding to their demands, Union Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the farmers that the government has accepted most of their demands but the farmers are adamant on not moving ahead to break the deadlock between the two over farm laws.

Protesting farmer leaders on Thursday said they will attend the ninth round of talks with the government amid indication that it may be last such meeting with the Centre, but added that they don't have much hope as they will not settle for anything less than the repeal of the contentious farm laws.
