EICMA 2018: Triumph Motorcycles Stall Wrap-Up

In case you missed out, here’s what the British manufacturer showcased at EICMA 2018

  • The Triumph Scrambler 1200 twins get a bigger motor, more complex electronics and new mechanical components for 2019.
  • Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition will be limited to 900 units worldwide.
  • While the Bonneville T120 Ace will be restricted to 1400 units worldwide.
  • Aside from the visual updates, both the T120 Diamond & Ace remain unchanged.

Though Triumph only showcased two of its models at EICMA 2018, the bikemaker still managed to draw quite a bit of crowd around its stall. For 2019, the manufacturer introduced the all-new Triumph Scrambler 1200 twins and the exclusive Bonneville T120 Diamond and Ace Edition. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

The Triumph Scrambler twins are bolder, more aggressive versions of the Street Scrambler. It will be offered in two variants: base XC and the top-of-the-line XE. The dirt-ready Scrambler 1200 now features a sturdy base plate, serrated footpegs for better footing, raised front and rear mudguards and a lightweight aluminium swingarm. Not just that, these are also the most tech-laden Scramblers in the market, with a full-digital single-pod instrument cluster that gets a ‘GoPro Control System’ (standard on the XE). Essentially, the rider can capture images using the handlebar-integrated switchgear. Neat, ain't it? Additionally, the bike gets knuckle guards, heated grips, a USB charging socket and cruise control right off the shelf.

On the styling front, the Scrambler 1200 stays true to Triumph’s neo-retro design philosophy. In essence, it’s the perfect blend of an archaic design paired with modern elements and mechanicals. The bikes feature a stainless steel strap on the tank, a race fuel-filler cap, easy-to-reach handlebars, a single elongated-seat and scrambler-style dual exhausts.

Both the bikes employ Triumph’s ‘High Torque’, 270-degree, 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. The motor has been tuned to produce 90PS at 7400rpm and 110Nm of torque at revs as low as 3950rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable long-travel suspension at both ends from Ohlins. However, the Scrambler 1200 XE gets 250mm of travel compared to the XC variant which gets 200mm on either side. Anchoring the bikes are top-of-the-line Brembo M50 brakes at the front and rear.

If that's not enough, the British bikemaker will also offer two kits called the ‘Escape’ and ‘Extreme’ inspiration kit for further customisation and over 80 accessories.

Triumph’s stall at EICMA wouldn’t be complete with some modern classics to drool over. As the name suggests, the Bonneville T120 Ace Edition and T120 Diamond Edition are exclusive motorcycles designed to pay homage to the original Triumph Bonneville from 1959.

The T120 Diamond Edition features an Union Jack livery and bling in the form of chrome covers and panels. It will be limited to only 900 units worldwide. Conversely, the Thruxton-based Bonneville T120 Ace gets a meaner-looking blacked outlook and will be limited to just 1400 units. Other than the visual updates, the bike retains the same engine and underpinnings.

While there’s no official word from Triumph, we could expect a couple of units of the Bonneville T120 Diamond and Ace editions to make it to India. On the other hand, the Scrambler 1200 XC and XE are expected to hit Indian shores sometime next year.
