Will Indians Get Vaccinated By December 2021? Know What Govt Claims

India has administered more Covid-19 vaccine doses in August than all the G7 nations combined, according to the government.

New Delhi: The BJP-led government is determined to vaccinate every citizen by end of this year under the world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination programme in India.

The tourism sector has been badly hit in the last two years including travel agents, tour operators and employees from the tourism sector, said Union Culture and Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy.

Indians Vaccinated

According to the Union Culture and Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, so far around 69 crore people have been vaccinated free of cost. The Union Minister informed around 1.33 crore people were vaccinated in a day and the government is proactively trying to vaccinate everyone by December (2021). This will help in opening up the country's tourism sector by January 2022.

"We want to reach out to the last person to be vaccinated in the country, in the remotest part by December this year. It is also a matter of great pride that India was one of the two countries which invented a vaccine for COVID, besides the USA, this raised the stature of Indian scientists and the country in the world," the release quoted Kishan Reddy as saying.

Total vaccine doses administered as of Monday is 68,75,41,762, according to the health ministry.

How does India’s vaccination programme fare compare to other nations?

India has administered more Covid-19 vaccine doses in August than all the G7 nations combined, according to the government.

In a tweet, the centre's official handle MyGovIndia, said the country administered over 180 million vaccine doses in August - more than all the Group of 7 nations combined that includes Canada, the UK, the US, Italy, Germany, France and Japan.

Canada administered three million doses and Japan 40 million doses in the two lowest and highest range, respectively, among G7 nations, according to data tweeted by MyGovIndia.

"Yet another achievement! With more than 180 million vaccine doses administered in the month of August, India leaves a mark on the Global map of leading its way in vaccinating its population on priority," the government tweeted.

"As many as 153 countries have sought our vaccines and some even paid the respective companies advance amount, but the government placed an embargo on export till people in our country are vaccinated," he said.
