‘Bring Law On MSP To Protect Interest Of Farmers', Says BKU Leader Rakesh Tikait At Kisan Mahapanchayat

Along with MSP, Tikait also demanded financial aid for the kin of those farmers who had lost their lives during the year-long protest against the three farm laws that the Centre had introduced.

New Delhi: Leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, demanded the Centre to bring a law that would guarantee Minimum Support Price (MSP) to the farmers for their crops, reported PTI.

While speaking in the Kisan Mahapanchayat at the Azad Maidan under Samyukta (SSKM) Shetkari Kamgar banner in Mumbai, Tikait said that Prime MInister Narendra Modi supported the MSP when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. “He wanted a nationwide law to ensure farmers’ interests were guaranteed,” Tikait said.

Tikait blamed the Union Government led by Narendra Modi for dodging a debate over the issue. “The Centre should bring a law to guarantee MSP to farmers. There are several issues related to the agriculture and labour sectors that need attention and we will travel all over the country to highlight them,” he said.

Along with MSP, Tikait also demanded financial aid for the kin of those farmers who had lost their lives during the year-long protest against the three farm laws that the Centre had introduced.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month had announced to repeal the three agricultural laws. After the three laws were passed by the parliament, farmers had been on a year-long protest on the Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders of Delhi.

They demanded to repeal the three agri marketing laws Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
