Breaking News HIGHLIGHTS: Hello and welcome to Breaking News Live blog. Follow this space for all the breaking news and latest updates from India and around the world. Among the main highlights of today include Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagging off Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, Supreme Court's verdict on pleas against traditional bull-taming sport Jallikattu and Central Bureau of Investigation's summon to Sameeer Wankhede.

PM Modi To Flag Off Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today virtually flag off Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will attend the event at Puri station, from where the train will start its inaugural run.  At around 1 pm, the Howrah-Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will be flagged off from Puri by the Prime Minister through the virtual mode.

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will be the second one that West Bengal is getting after the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express.

The Prime Minister will also launch other railway projects in Odisha including laying of the foundation stone of redevelopment projects of Puri and Cuttack railway stations.

SC To Deliver Verdict On Jallikattu

The Supreme Court will today pronounce its verdict on a host of petitions challenging Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra governments' laws allowing the bull-taming sport 'Jallikattu' and bullock cart races. Last year in December, a five-judge bench of Justices KM Joseph, Ajay Rastogi, Aniruddha Bose, Hrishikesh Roy and CT Ravi Kumar reserved its verdict on the matter.

Banned by the apex court in 2014, Jallikattu Jallikattu is a traditional bull-taming sport that takes place during the Pongal festival. Considered to be a sport and a cultural symbol by some sections, it has also been the subject of controversy due to the risk of injury to both bulls and participants.

The Tamil Nadu government had, however, passed an ordinance in 2017 and, again, in 2019, to allow the sport.

Sameer Wankhede To Appear Before CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned former Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau zonal director Sameer Wankhede for questioning today for allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, in the Cordelia cruise ship drug bust case.

Wankhede, who has been booked along with four others in the case, is likely to appear before the CBI in Mumbai, officials said.
