After opening bookings earlier this month, BMW will launch the G 310 twins on 18 July 2018

BMW G 310 R And G 310 GS Launch Date Revealed

The much anticipated BMW G 310 siblings are set to be launched on 18 July 2018. There’s no word on the pricing yet, however, bookings for the bikes began earlier this month across all BMW Motorrad showrooms for a token amount of Rs 50,000. That said, we expect the G 310 R to cost around Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom), while the G 310 GS is likely to cost Rs 50,000 more than its naked sibling.

Out of the two, the G 310 R is the street-biased version, inspired by the S 1000 R, while the G 310 GS takes design cues from its elder sibling, the R 1200 GS. The more adventure-based GS gets large dual-purpose tyres, a sump guard, more suspension travel compared to the roadster and a higher set handlebar. ABS comes as standard on both models, although, it can be completely switched off on the GS which makes it easier to steer the bike while off-roading. Both the bikes use the same braking setup, a 300mm disc with a 4-piston caliper at the front, while the rear gets a 240mm disk, fixed to a single-piston caliper.

BMW’s unique backward-tilted engine is shared by both platforms. This layout helps in lowering the centre of gravity and making the engine block compact, which in turn helps in improving the overall riding dynamics of the motorcycle. It’s a 313cc fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder mill, which produces 34PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.

Both the bikes use 41mm upside down forks up front and a monoshock unit at the back. However, suspension travel on the GS, at 180mm, is 40mm more than that of the G 310 R, both at the front and at the back. The suspension travel has been increased to give the GS better off-road capabilities.

BMW G 310 R And G 310 GS Launch Date Revealed

When launched, the G 310 R will go up against the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, the Bajaj Dominar 400, the Mahindra Mojo XT 300 and the Kawasaki Z250. On the other hand, the G 310 GS will rival the Royal Enfield Himalayan, Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure. Stay tuned for the official launch and pricing.
