'Focus On Medicines': BJP Condemns Jharkhand CM's Announcement Of 'Free Shroud' For Covid-19 Victims

CM Hemant Soren announced that shrouds to cover bodies would be made available to people free of cost as they are facing difficulties in procuring them due to the lockdown like restrictions in the state.

Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's announcement of provinding shrouds free of cost to cover bodies of people dying of Covid-19. The saffron party said that the Jharkhand government should have focused on providing free medicines instead. 

Chairing a review meeting of his Cabinet ministers to discuss strategies to contain Covid-19 in the state, CM Hemant Soren announced that shrouds to cover bodies would be made available to people free of cost as there were reports that they are facing difficulties in procuring them due to the lockdown like restrictions in the state.

To this, BJP Jharkhand president and MP Deepak Prakash lashed out at Jharkhand CM, saying that the irony is when the Centre is working on a war-footing to save the lives of citizens, Jharkhand government is pushing for free distribution of shrouds to the public. 

As reported by PTI, the saffron party spokesperson, Kunal Sarangi termed the announcement as "unfortunate" and "shameful" and said that the administration should have ensured distribution of free ration and medicine. 

Hitting back at the BJP for their remarks, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha said that BJP only noticed the shroud but failed to see the free vaccine being provided to people by the state government. 

In an twitter post, JMM said, "The Hemant Soren government is also giving free vaccines. But to you and your poor politics, what is visible is only the shroud." 

The state health department on Monday reported that 33 deaths and 1,394 new Covid-19 cases along with 3,291 recoveries were recorded in Jharkhand yesterday. Among the deaths, Ranchi reported the highest at 11 and 11 districts did not report any
