Big Relief For Central Employees! 3 Months’ DA Arrears To Arrive With This Month’s Salary

The government approved a 2% DA hike for employees and pensioners, effective January 2025, with three months’ arrears to be paid along with the April 2025 salary, benefiting millions.

The central government has approved a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for its employees and pensioners. This decision, taken during a cabinet meeting on March 28, 2025, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will benefit over one crore employees and pensioners.

Salary Hike and Arrears Payment in April 2025

As per the announcement, government employees will receive the increased DA with their April 2025 salary. Additionally, they will get arrears for January, February, and March 2025, providing a financial boost.

For employees with a minimum basic salary of ₹18,000, the monthly increase will be ₹360, resulting in a total arrears of ₹1,080 for three months.
For pensioners with a basic pension of ₹9,000, the monthly increase will be ₹180, leading to a total arrears of ₹540 for three months.

This move is expected to benefit approximately 48.6 lakh central employees and 66.5 lakh pensioners, with an annual financial impact of ₹6,614.04 crore on the government.

Next DA Hike and 8th Pay Commission Update

The next DA hike will be applicable for the period of July-December 2025 and is expected to be announced in October or November 2025.

Furthermore, discussions around the 8th Pay Commission suggest that, after its implementation, DA will be merged with the basic salary, resulting in a revised salary structure. DA calculations will then restart from zero.

How to Check DA Hike Status?

Government employees can verify their increased DA and arrears payment through the following methods:

  • Salary Slip – The updated DA will be listed separately in the April 2025 salary slip.
  • Bank Statement – Employees can compare their April 2025 salary with previous months to confirm the DA hike and arrears payment.
  • Employee Self-Service Portal (ESSP) – Salary details will be available on government department websites or employee portals.
  • HR or Accounts Department – If DA details are not visible on the salary slip or online portal, employees can contact their department’s HR or accounts team.

This increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief is a positive development for central government employees and pensioners. As they receive their enhanced salary and arrears in April, attention now shifts to the next DA hike and the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
