Homegrown electric two-wheeler startup Ather Energy has launched its e-scooters, the 450 and 340, at Rs 1,24,750 and Rs 1,09,750 respectively, making them the most expensive scooters manufactured in India. The company plans on selling the scooters only in Bengaluru in the initial phase, expanding to other parts of the country in the second half of the ongoing year.

The scooters share similar features such as a 7-inch touchscreen instrument console which has park assist, smartphone connectivity, navigation assist, push navigation and vehicle charging point tracker. Additional features include over-the-air updates, customer user interface, CBS braking, ‘Reverse Parking Assist’ and diagnostic alerts. The Ather 450’s sticker price includes a home charging point that will be installed by the company at the customer’s home or workplace.

The scooters may look alike and share the same features; however, they are somewhat different under the bonnet. The e-scooters run on a brushless DC motor which draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack. The 450’s motor produces a maximum power of 5.4kW (7.3PS) and a peak torque of 20.5Nm while the 350 mill churns out 4.4 kW (5.3PS) but slightly less torque at 20Nm.

Ather’s battery pack (2.4kWh on the 450 and 1.92kWh on the 340) comes with a 3 year/unlimited kilometre warranty. The 450 can be charged to 80 per cent in just 60 minutes using the DC charger as part of the Ather Grid, which roughly translates to 1km of range for every minute spent charging. At full charge, the 450 can manage a respectable range of 75km while the smaller 350 manages 60km.

Both the e-scooters are built on a hybrid steel and cast aluminium frame and gets telescopic forks up front and a progressive spring monoshock at the rear. The scooters also features disc brakes at both ends with a combined braking system for added safety. Their 12-inch alloys come wrapped in 90/90 rubber at both the front and rear.

In the growing Indian EV market, the Ather 450 and 340 goes up against the Twenty Two Motor Flow (Rs 74,740) and the Okinawa Praise (Rs 59,899, both ex-showroom Delhi). You can pre-book your Ather by visiting their website.
