Pawan Kalyan Asks YSRCP To Urge Centre To Reverse Decision On Vizag Steel Plant Privatisation
Pawan Kalyan staged a one-day hunger strike at Mangalagiri on Sunday, demanding YSRC to lead delegation on Vizag Steel Plant.
Hyderabad: Jana Sena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan has asked the YSRCP to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi to persuade the Centre to reverse its decision to privatise the Vizag steel factory. Pawan Kalyan staged a one-day hunger strike at Mangalagiri on Sunday.
Addressing a public gathering, Pawan Kalyan said he would fight for the people of Andhra Pradesh whether his party was in power or not.
Pawan slammed the YSRCP's "indifferent attitude" regarding the proposal to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, reiterating his demand that the YSRCP government and its 22 party MPs take the struggle to the Centre.
"The YSRC raised the steel factory problem before the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections, but when the results were announced, they ignored it," he said.
"It was because of former Tadikonda MLA Amrutha Rao's sacrifice, the then-Central government announced the construction of a steel plant in Visakhapatnam. Who can forget the state's people's sacrifices during the agitation? The YSRCP claims that the Vizag steel plant is being privatised because of a massive debt of Rs 22,000 crore, but what about the state's debt burden of 6 lakh crore," Pawan questioned
"They're attempting to harm my financial interests." Now I am putting it to them to do it. My films will be shown for free at movie theatres throughout Andhra Pradesh. Is there any transparency in the excise policy? So, if you want people to buy liquor for Rs.700 and watch a movie for Rs.5, go ahead," Kalyan said.
"During the winter session of Parliament, YSRCP MPs did not mention this matter. Why are the MPs of Andhra Pradesh are silent when Telangana MPs raise the problem of paddy procurement with the Centre?" he said.
The Vishakapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), founded in 1982 and operated by the corporate entity Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), is one of India's major public sector steel plants.
The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs on January 27 approved 100 per cent disinvestment of government stake in RINL along with RINL's stake in its subsidiaries/joint ventures through strategic disinvestment by way of privatisation.
The government initiated the process by appointing a transaction adviser, legal adviser and asset valuer. The government maintained that it would protect workers' interests throughout the share purchasing agreement and business transfer agreement.
All trade unions, officers' associations of VSP workers and non-manual employees, and political parties from Andhra Pradesh launched a masisve protest against the privatisation of VSP. The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly also passed a resolution demanding that the privatisation move be scrapped. They said privatisation would affect about 35,000 employees and their families.
