Patna: At a time when miscreants didn’t care for an elephant’s life in Kerala, a man from Bihar has given more reasons for jumbos to cheer by donating half his property to two elephants named Moti and Rani. In a sweet gesture, the man who considers both the elephants as his children decided to will half his property to them. “Animals are faithful, unlike humans. I’ve worked for the conservation of elephants for many years. I don’t want that after my death my elephants are orphaned,” Akhtar Imam told the news agency ANI. ALSO READ: Coronavirus: India Sees Spike Of Nearly 10,000 Cases In 24 Hours, Total Cases Now Over 2.75 Lakh Among the two elephants, Moti is 15 and Rani is 20 years old. The man wants his NGO to look after the elephants after his death.
According to the report he is quite attached to them as the animals saved him from attacks by local goons. The man was saved from a murder attempt on him because of the elephants." When some people with pistols tried to enter my room my elephant alerted me and I was able to raise an alarm,” Akhtar Imam said. The incident comes amid the uproar across the country over the pregnant wild elephant, which was found dead, after eating some substance mixed with explosives in Kerala’s Palakkad. The 15-year-old elephant wandered around with severe mouth injuries and died standing in the Velliyar River a week later on May 27, after it ate a fruit containing firecrackers in Kerala's Silent Valley Forest. The incident which sparked outrage over human cruelty forced the Kerala government to launch an investigation and a man allegedly involved in making explosives has been arrested. In this case, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking investigation by the CBI or a special investigation team (SIT).
