India Has A Very Long Tradition Of Particle Physics, Says CERN Physicist Archana Sharma

Particle physics, also known as high-energy physics, deals with the study of the fundamental subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons and electrons, and also matter and antimatter. This field explores the structure and forces at play at this level of existence, involves quantum mechanics, and gives utmost importance to symmetry. The invention of the atomic bomb was a result of discoveries and research in particle physics. India has been involved in particle physics research since the beginning of the 20th century. The Higgs Boson or the God particle, is named after British theoretical physicist Peter Higgs and Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose who, along with Albert Einstein, proposed a theory on the characteristics of bosons, one of the two broad categories of subatomic particles. The other category of subatomic particles includes fermions. The Higgs Boson is a type of boson. Dr Archana Sharma, a senior physicist at CERN, and the head of the engagement office for the Compact Muon Solenoid, told ABP Live that given India's limited resources, the country is doing a very good job in particle physics. She also said that there is always room for more to be done, and room for improvement. “I think that India has a very long tradition of particle physics. And there are very big premier institutions working in this field. Of course, there is always room for improvement. And there is always room for more to be done. But given our limited resources, we are doing a very good job,” Dr Sharma said.

Herniated Disc, Sciatica, Osteoporosis — Conditions That Can Cause Pain In Lumbar Spine Vertebrae

Bone and joint disorders are of different kinds, and can cause severe pain and discomfort. A person might suffer from pain in the L3-L4, or L4-L5 in the lumbar spine vertebrae due to multiple reasons such as bone diseases and joint disorders or injuries. L1 to L5 are the five lumbar spine vertebrae, and are the largest vertebrae in the entire vertebral column. L5-S1 is a disc at the bottom of the lower back, and includes L5 and S1, the first bone of the sacrum. L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 are the discs most likely to suffer from pain because nerves are trapped in these areas as they help support two-thirds of the total body weight. Herniated disc, spinal stenosis, sciatica, muscle and ligament strain, arthritis, bursitis, muscle fatigue, osteoporosis, spondylitis, Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies, facet joint arthropathy, and ankylosing spondylitis are the major conditions responsible for extreme pain in the waist region, experts told ABP Live.

AI-Supported Mammography Is As Good As Two Breast Radiologists Working Together: Study In Lancet

Artificial intelligence (AI)-supported mammography analysis is as good as two breast radiologists working together, and halves the screen-reading workload, according to a new study. As part of the research, a safety analysis of a randomised controlled trial involving more than 80,000 Swedish women was conducted. The study, published August 2 in The Lancet Oncology journal, says that AI-based mammography can halve the workload of radiologists trying to detect breast cancer. While standard double reading without AI detects five cancers per 1,000 women, AI-supported screening helped detect six cancers per 1,000 screened women. This means that AI helped detect one additional cancer for every 1,000 women screened.
