Triumph launched its top of the line Tiger 1200 series today, just three months after the British manufacturer introduced the 2018 Tiger 800 here. The Tiger 1200 will be offered only in the XCx variant, priced at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). While 6 variants of the new 1200 are available abroad, the XCx that has been launched in India is the top spec off-road-biased model in the adventure touring range.

So what’s new? According to Triumph, the Tiger 1200 receives over 100 improvements over the outgoing model. The first change is that it no longer carries the ‘Explorer’ sticker; instead, it’s simply called the Tiger 1200. Secondly, the overall design of the bike is pretty much the same apart from minor revisions seen on the faring and body. The biggest noticeable change is the all-LED lighting and full-colour TFT instrument console, similar to the 2018 Tiger 800. It also receives an updated cruise control system, electronically adjustable windscreen, keyless ignition and more.

The new bike sheds 5kg thanks to improvements made to the engine, chassis and exhaust. As for the nerds out there, the Tiger 1200 receives a host of electronic updates, such as self-balancing semi-active suspension, quickshifter for up/down shifts, cornering ABS, a hill hold feature, adjustable traction control and adaptive cornering lighting.

As for performance, the Tiger 1200 draws power from the same 1215cc inline triple motor as its predecessor, which delivers 141PS of power at 9350rpm and 122Nm of torque at 7600rpm. Transferring the power to the wheel via shaft drive is a 6-speed gearbox. It also features 6 different riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport, Off-Road, and Off-Road Pro (which turns off all rider assists, including ABS).

The 2018 Tiger 1200 will go head to head against the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure (17.1 lakh) and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro (18.04 lakh, both ex-showroom Delhi) which is expected to launch soon.
