2018 Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT: 5 Things To Know

Every Vitara Brezza AMT variant is Rs 50,000 more expensive than its corresponding manual variant

2018 Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT: 5 Things To Know

Maruti Suzuki has updated the Vitara Brezza with minor cosmetic changes and addition of basic safety features in all variants (more details here). However, the biggest highlight of the compact SUV’s update is the inclusion of an automated manual transmission (AMT) with the diesel engine. Scroll down to know 5 interesting things about the 2018 Maruti Vitara Brezza.

1. AMT in all variants but L

Maruti Suzuki has been actively adding an AMT to its cars such as the Alto K10, WagonR, Swift, Dzire and the Ignis. However, the carmaker has never offered one with the base variant of these cars and the same goes for the 2018 Brezza too. The AMT is available on all but the L variant of the Brezza.

2. First AMT with DDiS200

Maruti Suzuki offers its 1.3-litre diesel engine on almost its entire portfolio, ranging from the Ignis to the S-Cross, in two power outputs: 75PS and 90PS. The one with the lower output is referred to as DDiS190 while the higher output version is referred to as DDiS200.

Until now, Maruti Suzuki had paired only the DDiS190 with an AMT. But the Brezza is the first Maruti to get an AMT with the DDiS200. On the one hand, it leaves us wanting to get the Ciaz, Ertiga and the S-Cross with an AMT. On the other hand, we’re aware that Maruti Suzuki is developing a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that might go under the hood of at least one of its cars (second-gen Ertiga or Ciaz facelift) in 2018 only.

It remains to be seen whether Maruti reserves the DDiS200-AMT combination for the Brezza only or plans to roll it out in other cars too.

3. Orange exterior colour

The compact SUV now gets a new orange shade. Termed ‘Autumn Orange’, this can be had in a dual-tone combination as well with a white roof. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki has dropped the blue colour from the Brezza’s lineup. It’s interesting to note that Tata also introduced an orange exterior colour on the Nexon at the launch of its AMT version.

4. Black alloys & black interior

The grey alloys in the top-end Z/Z+ variants of the Vitara Brezza have been swapped with black ones. Moreover, the Brezza now gets all-black interiors as standard across its variants. Note that the Ford EcoSport is also going to get a new S variant soon that will sport black alloy wheels.

5. All basic safety features

The biggest change in the new Vitara Brezza has to be the standardisation of basic safety features. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors, high speed warning alert and front seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters are now offered right from the base variant.
