The Signature Review: A Heartfelt Drama With Anupam Kher's Outstanding Performance

Signature Review: 'Signature’ is not just a movie; it’s an emotional journey that reminds us of the value of life and relationships. Watch it to appreciate the brilliant performance of Anupam Kher.

The Signature Review: Do the elderly become irrelevant once they’ve fulfilled their duties? After a lifetime of building our lives, are they reduced to a mere signature on a piece of paper? Some films are more than just entertainment – they are profound experiences that stay with you. ‘The Signature,’ now streaming on ZEE5, is one such film. It not only makes you reflect but also reaffirms our good fortune of witnessing the brilliance of actors like Anupam Kher.

The Signature storyline

The story revolves around an elderly couple who, after a lifetime of hard work and helping their children settle into their lives, decide to do something for themselves. They plan a trip to Europe, but at the airport, the wife falls seriously ill, and it becomes a matter of life and death. The hospital asks the husband to sign a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) form, implying they won’t try to save her life through machines due to the lack of funds for such treatments. What follows is a heart-wrenching journey that tugs at your emotions, shakes you to your core, and culminates in a climax that will leave you teary-eyed.

How is the film?

This is a remarkable film. Within less than two hours, it teaches, touches, and transforms you. In today’s world of violent and vulgar content, a sensitive film like ‘The Signature’ is a refreshing change. Directed by K.C. Bokadia, this marks his foray into OTT with a deeply emotional story that makes you reflect on the harsh truths of life. After watching this movie, you will feel more inclined to care for your parents, perhaps even invest in medical insurance for them, and take actions you hadn’t considered before. This film is a must-watch.

Performances

Anupam Kher proves once again why he is one of the finest actors of our time. The vulnerability, helplessness, and pain on his face are palpable. His performance transcends awards – he embodies his character so convincingly that you feel every emotion with him. When he expresses his anger, you want to reach out and help, and you feel anger toward those who don’t. This is the magic of his extraordinary acting. Annu Kapoor, as Kher’s friend, delivers another commendable performance. Mahima Chaudhry, with her powerful screen presence, leaves a lasting impression even with minimal screen time. Her performance, especially when she appears without a wig, reminds us that a good actor doesn’t need three hours to make an impact. Nita Kulkarni and Ranvir Shorey are excellent, with Shorey leaving a mark in just one scene. Mohan Joshi is decent, though his character could have been developed more. Kevin Gandhi also does a fine job.

Direction

Gajendra Ahire, who wrote and directed the film, has crafted a tightly woven narrative that resonates deeply. Every scene, every frame is meticulously constructed, drawing you into the story. The stellar cast has been utilized to perfection, and Ahire leaves you hoping for more masterpieces from him in the future.

'The Signature’ is not just a movie; it’s an emotional journey that reminds us of the value of life and relationships. Watch it to feel, reflect, and appreciate the brilliant performances, especially that of Anupam Kher.
