'Crew', a heist-comedy, starring Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon dealing with the everyday challenges of middle-class life, feels like a breath of fresh air in Bollywood.

New Delhi: Bollywood has a history of focusing mostly on male characters in its films, giving women minimal screen time. Whether it's quirky comedy or action-packed buddy films, female characters have typically played clichéd roles or taken a backseat. But things seem to be shifting lately.
Reshaping the status quo are films such as 'Crew', which stars Kriti Sanon, Tabu, and Kareena Kapoor. They are exploring the intricacies of female friendships rather than sticking to the same rote routines. Although there is certainly more to be done to overcome stereotypes, these films offer a positive start. They're laying the groundwork for more powerful representations of women on screen by showing that women's stories should be presented in all their depth and variety.
This heist-comedy, featuring three women dealing with the everyday challenges of middle-class life, feels like a breath of fresh air among recent Bollywood films. While some parts of the industry are busy with out-of-school-textbook historical dramas or pushing certain agendas, this film keeps things light and fun. What makes it stand out is that it doesn't try to force any feminist message or paint its female characters as victims. Instead, it just lets them be themselves, navigating life's obstacles with humor and wit.
Rajesh Krishnan, who made his mark with 'Lootcase', helmed comedy-flick is a welcome break from the usual stereotypes. It shows women as real people, not just the roles society expects them to play. In contrast to the roles that society expects them to play, it depicts women as real people with flaws and desires. Finding a film that is purely entertaining and has no ulterior goals is an enjoyable retreat from the heavy-handed ones that dominate the screen.
Geeta (Tabu), Jasmine (Kareena Kapoor Khan), and Divya (Kriti Sanon) are three characters caught in the crazy world of Kohinoor Airlines in the entertaining adventure film 'Crew'. The airline is run by the extravagant but completely bankrupt Vijay Walia (Saswata Chatterjee), who brings it closer to a rollercoaster through financial turmoil.
Imagine this: While his employees are left hanging—literally—without their hard-earned wages, Vijay shows off his luxurious way of life. This scenario fits the saying "all glitz, no bucks." And the protagonists find themselves in a real bind when the bills rise more quickly than Vijay's debt. The undeniable parallel between the movie's fictional Kohinoor Airlines and actual bankrupt airlines run by flamboyant businessmen is too obvious to be overlooked. However, there are no easy answers in this absurd drama of troubles at work. Rather, our fearless trio will have to use their smarts and an ample dose of wit and charm to make their way through the maze.
After seeing their boss smuggling gold bars out of India by attaching them to his body, the three—who are already weeping over their unpaid rent and long-overdue provident fund—resort to following the same path in the hopes of ultimately finding happiness (read: a wealthy life). However, as fate would have it, when sub-inspector Mala uncovers their shady activities, things only get worse. As our main leads find themselves in a scenario that's more fishy than a seafood buffet on a steamy summer day, one can only expect more chaos.
In the film, Tabu, Kriti Sanon, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the three leading ladies, all gave outstanding performances. But let's give Kareena Kapoor Khan—who is pure gold—her due. Kareena and Tabu's incredible chemistry makes the film even more magical. You'll be yearning for more of this explosive pair after watching their scenes together. Even with a few slight character flaws, Tabu goes on to show why she's a remarkable actor. While Tabu perfectly captures the ethos of the middle class, Kareena delivers the glitz and glam with a character tailor-made for her. How Kriti fit in? She makes an interesting attempt to embody the ethically clean character, offering a level of conflict that the others don't quite have.
Meanwhile, the men in their lives are equally amazing as the leads, who don't play the victim: Geeta's husband (a special appearance by Kapil Sharma) is her unwavering supporter; Divya's on-again, off-again beau, Jaiveer (Diljit Dosanjh), easily charms everyone, and Jasmine's grandfather (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is the rock in her life.
'Crew' is a humorous ride through the highs and lows of ordinary people's lives, full of absurd plots and spectacularly bad attempts to make a living. But, at times, the movie feels like a plane stuck on the tarmac, never reaching its full potential. Although Kriti Sanon may have safely landed the plane at the climax, even with some outstanding performances, the movie doesn't land without turbulence.
Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a hilarious journey with Geeta, Jasmine, and Divya. Through all the twists and turns, they'll remind you of one key lesson: when life hands you lemons, it's time to mix up some lemonade!
