World Blood Donor Day 2022: Every year on June 14, the world celebrates the day as World Blood Donor Day. The day marks to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and to thank voluntary blood donors. 

Benefits Of Donating Blood

1. Donating blood reduces the risk of developing hemochromatosis. 
2. After donating blood, the body produces new blood cells. These new blood cells would keep the person in a good health. 
3. Donating blood can lower the risk of cancer, as the iron stores in the blood are maintained at healthy levels. 
4. Donating blood is also beneficial as it reduces the risk of heart and liver ailments which are caused due to iron overload in the body.

The theme is decided by WHO to highlight the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities. The slogan for the World Blood Donor Day 2022 is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”.

There are generally no health risks with donating blood. However, if a person is a regular blood donor, consulting a doctor about iron supplements and maintaining normal blood levels in the body is required.
