Shocking video: For selling alcohol, Christian woman caned in Indonesia's Aceh province

For selling alcohol, an elderly Christian woman has been caned in Indonesian's Aceh province. This is the first time someone from outside the Islamic faith has been punished there under strict religious laws. According to media reports, the 60-year-old was whipped nearly 30 times with a cane in front of hundreads of people present, on Tuesday (April 12). Thereafter, a couple were also subject to 100 lashes for committing adultery. It is pertinent to mention here that Aceh is the only province in the predominantly Muslim country that applies Syariah law. Those caught engaging same-sex relationships, in adultery, drinking etc end up facing the cane. Interestingly, more than 90 percent of Indonesians describe themselves as Muslim. However, the vast majority practise a mild form of the faith. Video courtesy-Serambinews TV/YouTube
