Saudi Arabia Announces First Day Of Eid-Al-Fitr, Says Ramadan Month Ends On May 1

As per the Hijri calendar, Eid-al-Fitr is marked on the first day of Shawwal month which comes after Ramadan. The UAE moon sighting committee is also set to make its official announcement soon.

New Delhi: Saudi Arabia's Supreme court on Saturday said that Sunday, May 1 will be celebrated as the last day of the holy month of Ramzan, and the first day of Eid-al-Fitr will be Monday, May 2. Since the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Sunday will not be marked as the first day of Eid-al-Fitr. 

As per the Hijri calendar, Eid-al-Fitr is marked on the first day of Shawwal month which comes after Ramadan. The UAE moon sighting committee is also set to make its official announcement soon.

The International Astronomical Center said on Twitter that the UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, and Turkey also announced that the first day of Eid al-Fitr that will be May 2. 

In India also, Eid-al-Fitr will be celebrated as per the moon’s sighting in Saudi Arabia which means that In India as well, Eid will be celebrated from Monday. 

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawaal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar after the new crescent moon is sighted on the 29th or 30th day of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr marks that after a month of fasting, from dawn to dusk, during Ramadan people can come back to their usual routine. To start the festivities of Eid al-Fitr Muslims offer, two Rakah of Salah (namaz), special prayers. The day is followed by meeting relatives, friends, and people are invited over for feasts.
