Maha Shivratri 2023: Easy Fasting Recipes That You Can Try At Home
Those who intend to fast during Maha Shivratri have an amazing opportunity to try some new and delicious meals that are both tasty and nutritious.
As we all know, fasting has its benefits and if done right can help your body detox while giving you the energy to last till the evening. Many people observe fast by eating only specific foods such as fruits, vegetables, and foods made with certain grains. For those who are fasting this Maha Shivratri, it is an excellent opportunity to try some new and delicious recipes that are both tasty and nutritious.

Vrat ke Uttapam
Vrat ke Uttapam is a tasty and healthy dish that can be made during the fast. This dish is similar to a pancake but is made with alternative grains.
Ingredients:
- 4 tbsp sour curd
- ¾ cup sabudana
- 1 tbsp sama rice
- 2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander
- 1 tsp oil
- salt to taste
- 2 tsp oil for greasing
- ½ tsp fruit salt
Instructions:
- Mix well with the curd and ¾ cup of water in a bowl.
- Add sama rice and sabudana in a mixture and blend together. Add green chillies, coriander, oil, and salt to it and mix well. Keep aside.
- Grease the microwave-safe plates using oil.
- Just before serving, add the fruit salt to the prepared batter and mix gently.
- Pour 1 tbsp of the batter on the greased plate and spread in a circular motion to make a 50 mm. (2") mini uttapam. Make 2 more such uttapams using 2 tbsp of the batter and put in your Voltas Beko microwave on high for 1 minute 20 seconds. Turn it upside down and microwave it on high for 20 seconds.
- Repeat with the remaining batter to make 12 more mini uttapams in 4 more batches.
- Serve immediately with green chutney.
Banana Walnut Lassi
Charge up with this nourishing drink. Lassi is made with the goodness of yogurt, bananas, honey, and walnuts. Drink up this healthy lassi and keep yourself energized throughout the day.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup low-fat yogurt
- ½ cup milk
- ½ Banana
- 3-4 Walnuts (you can use hazelnuts, almonds, or pine nuts)
- 1 tsp Seeds (mix of flax seeds and sesame seeds)
- 1-2 tsp Honey
Instructions:
- In a food processor, pour yoghurt, milk, flax seed, sesame seeds, walnuts, honey, and bananas.
- Blend it well till smooth and creamy

- Once chilled, garnish with chopped walnuts before serving
Dates laddu
Dates laddu is another winter special recipe. It’s healthy, sweet, and a perfect Maha Shivratri recipe. It is made of rich dry fruits like peanuts, dates, and poppy seeds. Also, it’s good for heart health and it’s high in fiber.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup roasted peanuts
- 4 piece’ dates
- 1 pinch of cardamom seeds
- 1 tbsp organic jaggery
Instructions:
- Grind the peanuts and the cardamom seeds into a fine powder in a grinder.
- Add seedless dates to this mixture and grind again. Once it is well-ground, place it into a mixing bowl. Place jaggery in Voltas Beko microwave for 20 seconds.
- Take a handful of the mixture and mold them into medium-sized spherical laddus.
- Place a few sliced almonds and pistachio on the top of each laddu for garnish.
