With the Covid-19 situation turning grimmer, people are once again considering going back to their hometowns and booking tickets will be the first thing on their mind.

Did you know that Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) eWallet is a system through which travellers can deposit money in advance with IRCTC and pay for ticket money? Yes, IRCTC e-wallet is one such payment method to book your tickets online.

What’s IRCTC eWallet?

E-wallet is basically a type of electronic card used for online transactions with the help of computer or smartphone. Its works just like credit or debit card but the E-wallet needs to be linked with the customer’s bank account to make payments. IRCTC eWallet is aimed to facilitate hassle-free online ticket booking.  The payment through this mode helps in saving reservation time required to get the approval in bank’s payment cycle.

It reduced the dependency on a particular bank, as tickets can be easily booked from IRCTC eWallet account if any of the banks in the list go offline. It also saves the ticket fees from the Payment Gateway.

What are features of IRCTC wallet?

For user authentification, IRCTC eWallet users are verified and authenticated through PAN OR Aadhaar card under the Internet verification process.

It offers a secured access as the user gets a Transaction Password/PIN number required for all IRCTC eWallet bookings. The IRCTC eWallet link also provides a complete IRCTC eWallet transaction history. In fact, the refund is credited to your IRCTC eWallet account if the tickets are cancelled.

How to register and book a ticket through IRCTC eWallet?

1: Firstly, log in to IRCTC with your existing IRCTC user id and password

2: You can find the IRCTC eWallet Section on the "Plan my travel" page

3: Then click the "IRCTC eWallet Registration" link

4: Enter PAN OR Aadhaar and other details for verification

5: You need to deposit a one-time registration fee of Rs.50-(Excluding Service Tax) online with any of the available payment options.

6: You have to deposit a minimum of Rs 100 in the IRCTC eWallet. The IRCTC eWallet is shown as an option for payment, together with other banks, to pay ticket booking amount. Click the 'DEPOSIT HISTORY' link on the left navigation bar for the status of the deposit of the IRCTC eWallet account.

7: Then you need to enter the password profile and click 'Go'.

Here are steps to deposit money in your eWallet:

You can deposit money into your virtual wallet after registering with the IRCTC eWallet.

Step 1: Login to your IRCTC eWallet account

Step 2: Under eWallet account, Click "IRCTC eWallet Deposit"

Step 3: Just enter the amount you want

Step 4: Choose a payment method

Step 5: Funds will be credited to your IRCTC eWallet.

What are the charges?

Registration Fee Rs 50 + Tax on service (non-refundable) 
Transaction fee: Rs 10 + transaction service fee. 
No cash back / No reimbursement permitted. 

Remember that IRCTC eWallet Balance be used for only for booking railway tickets only. Users registered with Indian nationality and Indian mobile numbers can only make use of the IRCTC eWallet service. The maximum allowable in the account of the user shall be Rs. 10,000. Also, note that membership fee and Redemption is subject to change at the discretion of IRCTC.
