WATCH: Devotees Celebrate Rang Panchami At Ujjain's Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple

People gathered at the temple took part in the Bhasma Aarti to lord Mahakal. Other related rituals that were performed at the temple included anointing the diety with milk, water, and curd.

New Delhi: Devotees celebrated the festival of Rang Panchami at Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh by offering prayers to lord Mahakal on Sunday. They also offered flowers and colours made from Tesu flowers at the temple.

This morning, people gathered at the Mahakaleshwar temple and took part in the Bhasma Aarti to the lord Mahakal. Other related rituals that were performed at the temple included anointing the diety with milk, water and curd, reported news agency ANI.

Priests in the temple also showered Gulal and colours on the assembled devotees performing rituals.

"We did a special Shringaar on Baba, we did Aarti and offered colours to god which were specially prepared from Tesu flowers which are originally pure and natural," said a priest at the temple, as quoted by ANI.

The priest further said, "This is a festival celebrated in the whole Malwa province, especially Ujjain and Indore. We conducted a pooja for the well-being and peace of our devotees".

A huge crowd of devotees gathered at the temple was left overjoyed after seeing the Bhasma Aarti on Sunday morning.

One of the devotees said, "We came all the way from Canada. We came for Bhasma Aarti and we also enjoyed a lot while playing Holi," as mentioned by ANI.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan took to Twitter to congratulate people and devotees on the occasion of Rang Panchami.

He said, "Hearty congratulations to you on the festival of enthusiasm, gaiety and joy! On this auspicious festival of colours, I wish that there should be happiness, prosperity, and success in everyone's life, enmity may end and harmony and affection increase. Best wishes!"

A large number of Devotees come to the Mahakal temple from all over the world to offer prayers to Lord Mahakal and play Holi during this time of the year.
