PDP Chairman Madani Hospitalised After Falling Ill In Kerala

Madani is the prime accused of 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blast case.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasar Madani was admitted to a hospital after he fell ill. Madani arrived in Kerala on June 26. This is the second trip of Madani in six years.

Madani is the prime accused of 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blast case. He reached Bengaluru after the Supreme Court allowed him to go to his home state to visit his ailing father on Monday.

On Monday, Madani while he was on the way to his village in Kollam district in an ambulance complained of uneasiness. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in the city.

A senior party leader told PTI, "He is diagnosed with high blood pressure. It remains high. He is currently not fit to travel all the way to his village."

He also requested the workers to not visit the hospital since he will not be able to meet anyone due to his health condition.

In 2014, Apex Court granted relief to Madani due to the undertrial's poor health but he was ordered to not leave Bengaluru.

Two months ago, Apex Court gave him permission to visit Kerala. The permission was granted based on a plea seeking relaxation of the bail conditions imposed by the SC.

However, the visit got delayed since the Karnataka government demanded "exorbitant" security for Madani. Around 12 policemen were told to escort Karnataka police department Madani to Kerala.

He was told to pay Rs 60 lakh for the expenses of the policemen accompanying him. However, Madani opposed paying for the expense.

He will be in Kerala till July 8. Currently, the Kerala police are providing security for Madani.

After the arrival, Madani said that he had been "trapped in a planned manner" and it was an "embarrassment" to the legal system to detain people as undertrial prisoners.
