Kerala Police Use Water Cannons To Disperse Congress Workers Protesting Against State Budget

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also said that the Kerala government's budget is "very disappointing"

After the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government's State Budget faced backlash from the public, Kerala Congress workers staged a protest in Kochi on Tuesday. Kochi Police used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse the workers protesting against the Budget. Earlier, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also said that the Kerala government's budget is "very disappointing".

In a tweet, news agency ANI said, "Tear gas shells used by Police to disperse Congress workers who are protesting in Kochi against the State Budget." The Kerala state budget was presented on Thursday (February 2).

The Kerala government proposed to increase petrol and diesel price by Rs 2 per litre and this became the reason for backlash from people. The increase in cess would also lead to a huge price rise.
