Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: Suspect From Ballari Taken In For Questioning By NIA
Last week, NIA and Central Crime branch detained a cloth merchant and former member of banned Popular Front of India in connection with the case.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a suspect in the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast case into custody, according to sources in the anti-terror agency, as quoted by ANI on Wednesday. Identified as Shabbir, the individual was nabbed in Karnataka's Ballari district.
According to reports, the investigating agency suspects that Shabbir possesses information regarding the blast and has detained him based on his recent travel history. They also said that the man has "some resemblance" with the prime suspect.
"NIA sleuths are interrogating him to know his whereabouts on March 1 when the blast took place," sources said, as per PTI.
However, NIA has said that it has not placed anyone under arrest yet. It also remains to be confirmed whether the suspect is the same individual captured in the CCTV footage.
On March 1, 10 people were injured in a low-intensity blast that shook the Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. The blast was allegedly due to the IEB bomb planted by an accused in the cafe. The accused, donning a cap and mask, placed a low-intensity bomb from a backpack in the well-frequented eatery in Brookefield area near Whitefield.
