Karnataka: Seven People Killed In Accident In Belagavi, CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Compensation

New Delhi: Seven people were killed on the spot and four others injured when a goods vehicle they were travelling toppled off a bridge and fell into a stream on Sunday in Belagavi district. Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai announced compensation worth Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.

CM Bommai took to his Twitter to express grief and anguish due to the loss of lives. Also, the Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to the next of kin of each deceased person.

The commuters, who were killed in the accident, were construction labourers heading to Belagavi. The vehicle fell into the stream after the driver lost control of it, said a Times of India report.

Police rushed to the spot as soon as they got the information about the accident. Police Commissioner MB Boralingaiah consoled the families of the bereaved, who lost their lives in the accident. CM consoled the deaths of the labourers and ordered proper medical treatment for the people who were injured.

"I am deeply pained to hear about the incident. I have ordered paying Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family members of each deceased on behalf of the state government. The Deputy Commissioner will also give a compensation of Rs 2 lakh," Bommai said, as quoted by Times of India.
