Karnataka Police Shoot Murder Accused In Leg As He Tries To Escape Custody

DCP MN Anuchet said that the accused had attempted to assault head constable Mahesh and attacked him with a stone. When he tried to escape, a police official shot him in the left leg, he added.

Chennai: Karnataka police investigating the sensational murder case that took place inside a football stadium in Bengaluru, shot at and injured the prime accused when he tried to attack the police and escape from their custody on Monday. He was shot in the leg.

According to a report in IANS, the incident took place near Ashok Nagar cemetery when Ashok Nagar police brought the prime accused, Stalin, for spot inspection. 

Quoting Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) MN Anuchet, the report said that the accused had attempted to assault head constable Mahesh and attacked him with a stone. When he tried to escape, a police official shot him in the left leg and both the accused and the head constable are undergoing treatment in a hospital, the official said. 

The accused was a history-sheeter in KG Halli police station and as many as 13 cases including seven murder attempts were registered against the accused, IANS reported.

About ten days ago, he along with his associates had murdered one Aravind, a history-sheeter from Bharati Nagar, over personal rivalry inside a football stadium in Bengaluru in the public view.

According to a report in The Hindu, people saw armed assailants chasing Aravind a few minutes before the match between Roots FC and GRK football youth club began at the football stadium. The victim jumped the gallery and locked himself in one of the referees’ rooms to escape but the accused broke open the door and hacked him to death. Subsequently, police arrested four people including Stalin.
