The accused, a 23-year-old man, targeted the students just as they were about to enter the examination hall to attend their Class 12 board exams.

Three girl students were attacked with acid at Kadaba Government Pre-University College in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, near Mangaluru city, by a miscreant on Monday. The accused, a 23-year-old man, targeted the students just as they were about to enter the examination hall to attend their Class 12 exam board exams.

According to preliminary investigation, the victims were all students of second-year Pre-University College (Class 12). The accused was also identified as Abeen from Kerala.

The accused who was wearing a hat, mask and college uniform reportedly targeted a girl from Kerala. The girl was a Class 12 student in the science stream, according to a report on The Indian Express.

On the day of the attack, the miscreant targeted and threw acid at her. Two other girls who accompanied her also suffered burn injuries in the incident. The victims immediately shouted for help and other staff members helped the students.

The survivors suffered severe facial injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital.

The accused, who attempted to flee the scene, was held by the public. According to reports, he was caught and subsequently handed over to the police, said a report on IANS.

Meanwhile, Karnataka government announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each of the three female students who were victims of an acid attack at the Government Pre-University (PU) college in Kadaba, Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday. Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, Chairperson of the State Women's Commission (SWC), confirmed the compensation during her visit to the hospital where the students are undergoing treatment. Additionally, the government has assured to cover all their medical expenses.

Upon learning about the incident, parents and other members of the public gathered both at the college premises and the hospital. The incident sparked concern and instigated a sense of panic in the region, particularly given its communal sensitivity.
