Karnataka Hijab Row: Students Wearing Headscarves Allowed Entry Into Campus, To Be Seated In Separate Classroom

The controversy initially sparked when six students weren't allowed entry into the Government Pre-University College for wearing hijabs

New Delhi: After fighting tooth and nail for almost a month, students wearing headscarves on Monday are finally allowed entry into the Government Pre-University College in Kundapura in the Udipi district. But, the management has decided to allow them seating in a separate classroom.

The controversy initially sparked when six students weren't allowed entry into the Government Pre-University College for wearing hijabs. The students spent almost a month without attending classes and finally on Monday after a tremendous toil by the students the management has decided to allow the students entry.

The Udipi's Additional Superintendent of Police, ST Siddalingappa told ANI, "The situation is under control in Kundapura and students are being allowed to come to the colleges and allowed into the campus by wearing Hijab. There is no law and order situation in Kundapur."

Two arrested for carrying "lethal weapons" near protest site

Earlier on Monday, two people were arrested for carrying "lethal weapons" near the Government PU College where the students have been protesting against being barred for wearing headgears. The accused were identified as Haji Abdul Majid and Rajjab.

"Two people have been arrested, three are absconding. We are trying to trace them. They had one knife and they were not locals. They are from Gangolli. They have been sent to judicial custody. The case is under investigation," said the additional SP of Udipi.
