Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that 1,400 new electric buses will be added to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation by April next year.

He said, "So far, Karnataka women have undertaken 120 crore rides in state transport buses for free since the launch of the Shakti scheme. A total of 40 lakh people travel on BMTC every day. In this, women of all castes, all religions and all walks of life are travelling for free."

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP for opposing the state's free bus travel service for women and questioned their failure to implement such welfare measures during their tenure. He emphasized the positive impact of these schemes, stating, "Due to our guarantees, the purchasing power of people and the economic activity of the state is also increasing." Siddaramaiah highlighted the financial benefits for laborers, farmers, and women, contributing to the economic strength of millions of families.

Approximately 4.30 crore people in the state directly benefit from government guarantee schemes, bringing the poor and working classes into the economic mainstream, he asserted. Siddaramaiah emphasized that economic empowerment has led to financial independence for women, as well as poor, working-class, and middle-class families across Karnataka.
