On Tuesday, India had recorded less than 3 lakh COVID cases- 2,55,874 new cases (50,190 less than yesterday), 614 deaths and 2,67,753 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

In a meeting with health ministers of nine North Indian states and union territories on Tuesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya advised the states/UTs to send Covid testing & vaccination data regularly.

As per the sources, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also said that testing should be ramped up in the states where it has gone down, ANI reported.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive have exceeded 162.26 crores.

Mumbai on Tuesday reported 1,815 new infections, after reporting 1,857 on Monday. However, the national capital witnessed a slight spark in the covid-19 cases, with 6,028 new infections logged on Tuesday in comparison to 5,760 on Monday.

As per the data released by the health department, Delhi recorded 6,028 new Covid cases and 31 fatalities on Tuesday, while the positive rate fell to 10.55 per cent, PTI reported.

On the other hand, according to the data released by the public health department, Mumbai reported  1,815 new Covid-19 cases and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of infections to 9,97,042. The total recovery rate of Mumbai remains at 96%.

According to the health bulletin released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 753 patients were discharged in a single day.

Maharashtra Records 35,756 New COVID-19 Cases, Deaths Remain High At 791

Mumbai, Jan 26 (PTI) Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 35,756 new coronavirus cases, up from 33,914 logged a day ago, while deaths linked to the infection remained high at 79, the state health department said.

No new case of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus was reported in the state, the department said in a bulletin.

With these additions, the state's COVID-19 caseload rose to 76,05,181, while the death toll reached 1,42,316, it said.

On Tuesday, the state had reported 86 deaths linked to the infection.

Till date, a total of 2,858 patients have been found infected with the highly contagious Omicron variant in the state of which 1,534 have already recovered.

The health department had sent 6,328 swab samples for genome sequencing of which results of only 92 are awaited, the bulletin said.

As many as 39,857 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative number to 71,60,293, the department said.

The state, where the coronavirus recovery rate is 94.15 per cent, now has 2,98,733 active cases, it said.

Mumbai city reported 1,858 cases and 13 deaths.

Of the eight administrative circles (each comprising several districts) in the state, the Pune circle reported 12,986 new coronavirus cases, followed by Nagpur (6,415), Mumbai (4,830), Nashik (4,572), Aurangabad (1,801), Latur (1,793), Kolhapur (1,676) and the Akola circle (1,683), the department said.

The Mumbai circle recorded 29 deaths during the day, followed by Pune 17, Nashik 13, Kolhapur 13, Nagpur three, Latur and Akola (two each).

No death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the Aurangabad circle in the past 24 hours, the health department said.

Currently, 15,47,643 people are in home quarantine and another 3,298 in institutional quarantine.

With 1,83,026 new coronavirus tests, the tally of swab samples examined so far in the state rose to 7,38,67,385, it added.

Maharashtra's coronavirus figures are as follows: New cases: 35,756, total cases: 76,05,181, total deaths: 1,42,316; recoveries: 71,60,293, active cases 2,98,733, total tests: 7,38,67,385.

COVID-19: 48,905 new cases in Karnataka, 39 deaths

Bengaluru, Jan 26 (PTI) Registering a surge in numbers again, Karnataka on Wednesday reported 48,905 new cases of COVID-19 and 39 fatalities, taking the tally to 36,54,413, and death toll to 38,705.

The state on Tuesday had reported a dip in daily cases at 41,400.

There were 41,699 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 32,57,769, a bulletin said.

Of the new cases, 22,427 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 18,734 people being discharged and 8 virus-related deaths.

The total number of active cases across the state is now at 3,57,909.

While the positivity rate for the day stood at 22.51 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.07 per cent.

Of the 39 deaths, 8 are from Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada and Hassan (4), Mysuru (3), Chikkaballapura, Kalaburagi, Mandya, Ramanagara and Uttara Kannada (2), followed by others.

Apart from Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru recorded the second highest with 2,797 new cases followed by Tumakuru 2,645, Mandya 2,186, and Hassan 2,016.

Bengaluru Urban district now has a total of 16,48,758 cases, Mysuru 2,11,426 and Tumakuru 1,48,223.

According to the bulletin, Bengaluru Urban tops the list among discharges with 14,16,078, followed by Mysuru 1,92,638 and Tumakuru 1,32,026.

Cumulatively, a total of 6,10,68,141 samples have been tested, of which 2,17,230 were on Wednesday alone.

Daily COVID-19 infections drop below 30,000 in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Jan 26 (PTI) New COVID-19 infections dropped below 30,000 in Tamil Nadu as it added 29,976 cases on Wednesday, pushing the caseload to 32,24,236, the health department said.

As many as 47 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, mounting the death toll to 37,359 till date, a medical bulletin said.

New COVID-19 infections have been hovering over 30,000 over the last few days and Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a declining trend after reaching a peak of 30,744 cases on January 22.

Meanwhile, recoveries were marginally less compared to new cases with 27,507 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 29,73,185 leaving 2,13,692 active infections, the bulletin said.

Seven districts led by Chennai accounted for the majority of new coronavirus infections with the state capital adding 5,973 cases followed by Coimbatore 3,740, Chengalpet 1,883, Tiruppur 1,787, Salem 1,457, Erode 1,302 and Kanyakumari 1,035 with the remaining in other districts. Those who tested positive, included 18 returnees from various states.

A total of 1,50,931 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6,10,54,111, the bulletin said.
