Covid-19 | Health Ministry Asks Four States To Follow Five-Fold Strategy Amid Surge In Cases: Report

India has surpassed the 7,000-mark in the last 24 hours as it recorded 7,240 new Covid infections according to the latest data released by the health ministry.

New Delhi: With the spike in Covid-19 cases in India, the health ministry is constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation in four states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, and Karnataka. The ministry has instructed the said states to employ a five-fold strategy: test-track-treat-vaccine and adherence to COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour is required, reported news agency ANI citing official sources.

India reported a massive spike in Coromavirus cases on Thursday. The country has surpassed the 7,000-mark in the last 24 hours as it recorded 7,240 new Covid infections according to the latest data released by the health ministry.

A total of 7,240 infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours taking India's total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,31,97,522, while the death toll has climbed to 5,24,723 with eight fresh fatalities, data updated at 8 am by the ministry stated.

There has been 40 per cent jump in the cases for the second consecutive day.  With the addition of the new cases, the active case tally in the country now stands at 32,498 taking the COVID-19 tally of cases to 4,31,97,522.

The country reported eight deaths from Covid-19, the Health Ministry said, taking the official death toll to 524,723 on Thursday.

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 2,701 fresh coronavirus positive cases, the highest in nearly four months, but did not report any fatality, while the active caseload inched closer to the 10,000-mark at 9,806, the health department said.

The Karnataka government's Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has recommended ramping up daily testing numbers in the wake of rising infections in the city. On Wednesday, the state has recorded 376 new Covid-19 cases, zero deaths with a positivity rate of 1.61 per cent. Bengaluru alone registered 358 new infections. 

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive have exceeded 194.59 crore.
