Covid-19 India: Fresh Cases Remain Above 10,000 Mark With Slight Decline, Check Active Caseload

India saw a slight decrease in new cases reported in the last 24 hours as the country logged 10,112 new cases, meanwhile, the number of recoveries stood at 9,833 recoveries. The active caseload stands at 67,806, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The death toll due to the viral disease has climbed to 5,31,329 with 22 fatalities, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am.
The active cases account for 0.15 per cent of the total caseload, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.66 per cent, according to the health ministry's website.
On Saturday, India recorded 12,193 Covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours. The country breached the 12,000-mark last week, when 12,591 fresh infections were reported on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 4,42,92,854 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of anti-Covid vaccines have so far been administered to people across the country.
The total number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours is 1,43,899, the health ministry stated.
On Saturday, Maharashtra Health Minister Dr Tanaji Sawant said the currently spreading Covid-19 variant XBB.1.16 was not a reason to worry. He asked the citizens not to panic amid the surge in cases in the state. Sawant also stated the current Covid wave will go down to an endemic stage by May 15 this year, adding that a downward trend will be witnessed next month. However, the state health department has acknowledged the XBB.1.16 to be the dominant variant of Omicron.
With over 681 cases of XBB.1.16 Covid variant, the state has been witnessing a surge in cases. A total of five persons have already succumbed to this variant, reported PTI.
The minister was speaking at the 'Bhoomi Poojan' ceremony of the new 900-bed district civil super-speciality hospital in Thane. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde performed the rituals.
While talking during the event, Shinde said the Thane District Civil Hospital had a major role in the development of the Shiv Sena in Thane and adjoining districts, reported PTI.
