Coronavirus Update: India Reports 1,150 COVID Cases, 83 Deaths As Centre Asks States To Keep Vigil

Union Health Ministry on Friday asked Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Mizoram to keep a strict vigil over COVID surge and take prompt actions if required.

New Delhi: India on Saturday reported 1,150 new coronavirus infections, 1,194 recoveries, and 83 deaths in 24 hours.

According to the Union health ministry data, India's infection tally rose to 4,30,34,217, while the active cases dipped to 11,365.

The ministry data updated at 8 am showed that the total recoveries were at 4,25,01,196, while the death toll climbed to 5,21,656.

The active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent.

The country's daily COVID positivity rate was reported to be at 0.25 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.23 per cent.

Notably, Union Health Ministry on Friday asked Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Mizoram to keep strict vigil and take prompt actions if required. 

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to the states over the increase in Covid-19 cases in the last week, asking them to maintain a strict watch and take pre-emptive action if required, news agency ANI reported.

In a significant development, the Union Health Ministry on Friday announced that the precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccines will be made available to the 18+ age group at private vaccination centres from April 10.

"The administration of Precaution Dose to 18+ population through Private Vaccination Centres would start from 10th April (Sunday), 2022. All those who are more than 18 years of age & have completed 9 months after the administration of second dose, would be eligible for Precaution Dose," the ministry's statement reads.

185.55 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
