COVID Update: Positivity Rate Declines As Active Cases Remain Above 1 Lakh-Mark, Know Fresh Tally

India's daily infection count has seen a decline as compared to Thursday after the active cases crossed the one lakh mark again after 122 days. 

New Delhi: India reported 17,070 fresh cases, 14,413 recoveries, and 23 deaths, in the last 24 hours while active cases remained above the one lakh mark at 1,07,189 cases. The daily positivity rate is at 3.40%.

India's daily case tally has seen a decline as compared to Thursday when the country was reported to have logged 18,819 fresh cases and 39 deaths in  24 hours. The positivity rate was at 4.16%. The active COVID cases surged to 1,04,555 from 99,602. The active cases crossed the one lakh mark again after 122 days. 

The total case tally of the country now stands at 4,34,69,234. India's total death toll climbed to 5,25,139 after the addition of fresh fatalities.

Bengal Logs Over 1,000 New COVID Cases For Second Consecutive Day, Positivity Rate Jumps To 12.89%

West Bengal reported over 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Thursday, as 1,524 more infections pushed the tally to 20,29,425, as the state health department.

The death count increased to 21,219 with one new fatality. On Wednesday, 1,424 single-day cases were registered.

The state now has 6,994 active cases, while 20,01,212 people have recovered from the disease so far.

Meanwhile, the health department issued an advisory, stating that "only asymptomatic and fully vaccinated people should preferably attend public gatherings following COVID-appropriate behaviour".

It sought special emphasis on completion of primary vaccination and precaution dose administration while recommending door-to-door campaigns if required.

"Healthcare workers and frontline workers having close contact with the public must be asymptomatic and fully vaccinated. Elderly people and those with comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes, chronic lung/liver/kidney diseases must get themselves fully vaccinated including booster dose," the department stated, as quoted by PTI.
