Coronavirus In India: The Covid-19 situation in India seems to be uncontainable as the death toll of the country surpassed a grim milestone of one lakh by Friday evening, while the caseload climbed to over 64 lakh and recoveries surged to 54,15,197, according to data from states and union territories. However, it is to be noted that India also maintains its global position of being the country with the maximum number of recovered patients in the world. As the Union Health Ministry updated its data on Friday at 8 am, a total spike of 81,484 infections was recorded within 24 hours. The overall tally was pushed to 63,94,068, while the death toll climbed to 99,773 with 1095 deaths in 24 hours. However, as per agencies, as the states updated their daily tally, the death toll surpassed the 1-lakh mark to touch 1,00,768 and recoveries at 54,15,197. Talking of the worst hit parts of India, Covid-19 deaths and cases continued to cause concern as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region toll crossed the 16K mark - higher than all states barring Maharashtra - while Mumbai city fatalities surpassed 9K-level, health officials said here on Friday. India’s Global Position: Though India is the second worst hit nation in terms of caseload after the United States, and is at the third place in terms of Covid deaths, it is however at the first position in terms of the number of recovered coronavirus cases followed by Brazil and the US, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
