Red Dead Online Gets Spooky With New Freebies. But You’ve Only Got 48 Hours

To access the event, players need either the full Red Dead Redemption 2 game or the standalone Red Dead Online version.

Rockstar Games is dialling up the supernatural in Red Dead Online, and fans have just 48 hours to saddle up and claim a bundle of eerie new rewards. As part of a time-limited event, players can now jump into "Strange Tales of the West", a ghostly update inspired by the cult-classic Undead Nightmare DLC from the original Red Dead Redemption.

The event was unveiled on July 1 via Rockstar's official X account, promising a twisted turn for the frontier. “Embark upon four new adventures that require steely resolve and courage in the face of the odd, twisted, and downright supernatural,” the studio announced, teasing a darker spin on its beloved Western world.

Free Missions, Exclusive Gear, and XP Bonuses

Players who log in during the event window can expect more than just a spooky vibe. Rockstar has lined up a stack of rewards and content drops designed to entice both veterans and new players back into the fold.

Among the highlights:

  • New supernatural-themed missions woven into a fresh narrative arc
  • Bonus XP and in-game cash for completing event-specific challenges
  • Free DLC items, including the Rebellion Poncho, which is unlocked just by logging into Red Dead Online this month
  • Limited-edition apparel, such as the blue Eberhat Coat, which can be unlocked by completing a Wildlife Photography round — but only until July 7, 2025

Available Across Platforms

To access the event, players need either the full Red Dead Redemption 2 game or the standalone Red Dead Online version. The update is live across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Whether you're a gunslinger or ghost-hunter, this limited-time event brings a rare mix of gritty Western action and supernatural flair. But time is ticking — all the bonus content and freebies will vanish after 48 hours.
