New Delhi: The Elephant Whisperers, a Netflix short documentary produced by Guneet Monga and directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject. Together with 'Haulout'. 'How Do You Measure a Year?' 'The Martha Mitchell Effect' and 'Stranger at the Gate','The Elephant Whisperers' was up for an award in this category. The movie's director Kartiki Gonsalves gave credit for the success to her "motherland India."
From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the film is earning praises from all corners.
The Prime Minister wished producer Guneet Monga and her team for their documentary "The Elephant Whisperers" winning the Oscar award.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin tweeted: "Congrats to Kartiki Gonsalves &@guneetm on winning the #Oscar. No better news to wake up to than two women bringing the first ever Oscar for an Indian production. The patient making and the moving story of the #ElephantWhisperers deserve all the praises & accolades it it's getting."
From Priyanka Chopra to Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, Bollywood celebrities also hurled praises at 'The Elephant Whisperers'.
Sanya Malhotra extended her congratulations to the team and wrote, "It's coming home."
Rajkummar Rao wrote, "Congratulations to team of 'The Elephant Whisperers' on their historic Oscar win! Your success is an inspiration to all of us and we are honored to celebrate your achievement. So proud of you two wonderful women."
After being presented the honour, Kartiki, who was accompanied with producer Guneet Monga, said: "I stand here to speak today about the sacred bond between us and the natural world for the respect of indigenous communities and empathy towards other living beings we share our space with and finally for coexistence. Thank you to the academy for recognising our film, highlighting indigenous people and animals."
