Rupali Ganguly discussed becoming the target of body-shaming after becoming a mother.
New Delhi: In the world of television, Rupali Ganguly is a major player. The actress is now dominating the industry because of her acclaimed television show, ‘Anupamaa’. Rupali shared some personal and professional details in a recent interview. She discussed becoming the target of body-shaming after becoming a mother.
When Rupali gave birth to her kid, an actress friend of hers said that she had officially entered the aunty phase of her life. Rupali told ETimes, "I started eating different things and I was 83 kilos and I was very fat. When I would take my son to the pram for a stroll, people would say “Arre Tu toh Monisha hai Na, kitni Moti hogayi”. Maybe someone must have said that in a very nice way, but you feel bad. Won baat tab chubh jaati hai. An actress friend of mine came to meet me and she told me, Arre Tu toh aunty ban gayi. These things affect you mentally, they stay and bother you. People don’t have the right to call you aunty, moti, you will decide what you want to be called."
Rupali also discussed the criticism she received for her appearance. The actress discussed this topic further, saying that she has experienced both body shaming and age shaming. Even more shocking, Rupali said that many of her social media followers have often remarked that she seems to be much older than her co-star Gaurav Khanna.
She went on to explain that she takes pride in her wrinkles and that people should stop complaining about her age and instead admire her accomplishments. As she put it: "I have gone through body shaming, age shaming even after Anupamaa. Arre your wrinkles are visible, arre that fat lady, yes I have wrinkles and I am proud of them. I am proud of what I am today. After three years of Anupamaa, I can say I accept the way I am."
Rupali has been a fan favourite since she first appeared on television in shows like 'Sanjivani', 'Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai', and 'Parvarrish - Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi'.
