‘Tandav’ Controversy: Amazon Prime Video Officials In India Summoned By Information Broadcast Ministry

New Delhi: Saif Ali Khan-Dimple Kapadia starrer ‘Tandav’ landed into a pool of controversies soon after its release. It is a political drama which released on January 15, 2021, on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. Viewers are directly alleging that Lord Shiva and Lord Ram have been insulted in ‘Tandav’ and have been appealing to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar to ban the web series.

According to the latest update, Amazon Prime Video officials in India have been summoned by the Information & Broadcast Ministry. The summon has been sent in connection with the controversy around ‘Tandav’.

A report of ANI reads, “Amazon Prime Video officials in India summoned by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, in connection with the controversy around web series 'Tandav'”.

On a related note, the whole controversy is around a scene of the very first episode of ‘Tandav’ in which actor Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub is seen disguised as Lord Shiva. While addressing the students of the university, he says that from whom do you want freedom? As soon as they come to the stage, a stage operator says, 'Narayan-Narayan. God do something. Ramji's followers are constantly increasing on social media.

Netizens are objecting to the video of this part of the first episode of the web series. One section on Twitter says that showing Shiva's form in this way and commenting about Lord Rama cannot be accepted. At the same time, some sections of people are expressing strong objection on social media about another scene. In this video, a young college girl tells, 'When a low-caste man dates an upper-caste woman, he is not taking revenge, only from that woman.'

Other than Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia, ‘Tandav’ also stars an ensemble cast of Sunil Grover, Zeeshan Ayyub, Gauahar Khan, Kritika Kamra, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Amyra Dastur, Sarah Jane Dias, Sandhya Mridul, Annup Sonii, Hitten Ttejwani, Paresh Pahuja and Shonali Nagrani among others.
