The tragic event unfolded on July 13, when Raju, known for his fearless approach to stunt work, was performing a high-speed car flip. A video circulating online captures the chilling moments before the crash, showing Raju’s vehicle hurtling ahead before losing control. Crew members rushed to rescue him, but the injuries proved fatal. Reports say Raju had complained of chest discomfort after the crash and was immediately taken to Nagapattinam Government Medical College, where he was declared brought dead.

Vishal and other celebs pays tribute

Raju, 52, was a respected figure in the industry with decades of experience, having worked on numerous high-risk sequences over the years. Actor Vishal, visibly shaken by the news, paid an emotional tribute on X (formerly Twitter).

“So difficult to digest the fact that stunt artist Raju passed away while doin a car toppling sequence for jammy @arya_offl and @beemji Ranjith's film this morning,” he wrote.

Vishal recalled Raju’s long-standing contribution to his films. “Performed so many risky stunts in my films time and time again as he is such a brave person,” he added.

Offering his condolences to the late stuntman’s family, Vishal assured support beyond words. “Not just this tweet but will definitely be there for his family's future, being from the same film industry and also for his contribution to so many films. From the bottom of my heart and as my duty I extend my support for them. God bless.”

Well-known stunt coordinator Silva also expressed his grief on Instagram, writing: “One of our great car jumping stunt Artist S M Raju Died today while doing car stunts RIP. Our stunt union and Indian film industry ll be missing Him.”

So far, neither Arya nor director Pa. Ranjith has issued an official statement about the incident.

'Vettuvan', backed by Neelam Productions, is said to be a multi-starrer featuring Sobhita Dhulipala, Attakathi Dinesh, Kalaiyarasan, and Lingesh alongside Arya. The film marks yet another socially rooted narrative from Ranjith, known for projects like 'Madras', 'Kabali', and 'Kaala'.
