In the film, Raghubir Yadav and Seema Pahwa essay a quintessential father and mother, to son and daughter duo played by Anuraag Malhan and Jamie Lever.
In a chat with Yadav and Pahwa over a video call, the two discussed the film, their experience of working with the new generation and much more.
Talking about the film, Seema Pahwal said, "This film is based on a very different concept because the middle-class families that we have, usually have big dreams and hopes. But, there are few people who wish for their happiness. The trip shown in the film is about a journey towards happiness and I think people will relate to it a lot because happiness is the thing which we tend to ignore a lot but it is very important in our lives."
Regarding his character, Raghubir Yadav said, "I play the role of a father, a husband, someone who is going to retire and who has all the household responsibilities on his shoulders. But, as per the present times, we are mostly busy with our work and do not have time for each other due to which a lot of misunderstandings creep inside the house. So, it is important for a family to go on a trip together at least once or twice a year to know each other well."
Talking about her role, Seema Pahwa said, "I play the character of a wife and a mother and I feel that women have always invested their time around their family and their kids- to get them educated and settled in life. Despite being a housewife, we keep looking for some work so that we can support our family. But, while trying to fulfil these responsibilities, we don't realise that our nature is changing- we become depressed at times, get irritated over petty issues etc. and these are what my character is dealing with in the film. So, the film is also a story of how she gets out of all this and finds relief."
Prior to this film, Seema Pahwa was also seen essaying the role of Sheela Maasi in 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' where she had worked with Alia Bhatt. Talking about how it is working with the new generation of actors, she said, "It feels really nice. Today's generation is very smart and intelligent and they do logical things. Every generation has its own good and bad but this generation is very intelligent and calculative- which we were not. So, when I work with the new generation, I learn a lot from them. They know where to use their energy, unlike us. We used to spend our energies on those things which might not bear any result. We did not take rest, but this generation is very calculative and if they feel that a project is not worth their energy, they let it go and take rest."
"Today when I see the new actors, I feel that the torture we were doing to our bodies was not needed. We were actors and acting could also be done without tiring our bodies," she added.
Raghubir Yadav was also seen in the previous two seasons of 'Panchayat' prior to 'Yaatris'. Talking about his experience, Yadav said "Hum jinko bachhe keh rahe hai, voh toh humse bade ho gaye hai! Hum bachhe ho gaye unke saamne."
As the conversation flowed, the two also talked about how much they enjoyed the shoot.
"We enjoyed a lot while shooting. It never felt as if we were doing a film. We always felt that we were a family who was on a trip. We felt that we were living a life which is named 'Yaatris'," said Raghubir Yadav.
Jokingly, Seema Pahwa added that it always feels nice to get a paid holiday! "Isse achhi shooting aur kya ho sakti hai," she added.
