The Archaeological Department had decided to buy the houses of Bollywood legend actors Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor as national heritage. Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has approved Rs 23.5 million to buy houses of Bollywood legends. Kapoor's house is valued at Rs 1.5 crore and Dilip Kumar's house is valued at Rs 8 million. According to Director Archeology Dr Abdul Samad, after purchasing houses of legendary institutions, they will be turned into a museum.
The ancestral house has been facing demolition threats as the owner wanted to build a commercial complex on the site worth crores reportedly. In response to late Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor made a request back in 2018, the Pakistan government had decided to convert the ‘Kapoor Haveli’ into a museum. The ‘Kapoor Haveli’ is located in Qissa Khwani Bazar of Peshawar in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and was reportedly built between 1918 and 1922 by Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor, Raj Kapoor’s grandfather.
Dilip Kumar’s ancestral home is more than 10 years old and is located in the same locality. It was declared a national heritage by the then Nawaz Sharif government in 2014.
According to a report of PTI, the owner of Kapoor Haveli, Ali Qadar, in the past said that he did not want to demolish the building and made many contacts with the archaeology department officials to protect and preserve this historic structure which is national pride. The owner demanded ₹ 200 crores from the provincial government to sell it out to the government.
