Nagpur Court Directs Yo Yo Honey Singh To Provide Voice Sample In Obscene Song Case

The Maharashtra District Court in Nagpur ordered singer Honey Singh to appear at the local police station to submit his voice sample.

In connection with a case filed against him for performing and uploading an obscene song on the Internet, a district court in Maharashtra's Nagpur directed popular singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh to remain present at Pachpaoli police station between February 4 and 11 to provide his voice sample.

The most recent court ruling came after he requested a waiver to fly to Dubai. Honey Singh was granted permission to travel overseas between January 29 and February 4, but he is required to report to the police station.

The Panchpaoli Police allegedly filed a case against Singh under Section 292 of the sale and distribution of obscene content and the Information Technology Act, based on a complaint filed by one Anandpal Singh Jabbal. An investigating officer contested Singh's account, citing the musician as supposed to attend at a police station on January 25, but he did not arrive, indicating in an email that he could not.

According to the investigator, the singer did not comply with the inquiry and that if he is permitted to fly, he may not appear in court.

“It appears that the applicant is bona fide seeking permission to travel abroad for his business engagement on three different dates. Considering the fact that his presence is required by the police to record his voice sample, he has shown his bona fide by filing pursis for providing his voice samples. Under these reasons, I see no legal impediment to grant permission to him by imposing certain conditions,” the judge said, as reported by TOI.

Earlier, in September 2021, Signh’s wife had filed a domestic violence complaint against him.
