Ranveer Singh Set To Lead 'Singh Is Kinng 2', Filmmaker Confirms Diljit Dosanjh As Second Choice

The sequel of 'Singh Is Kinng' is in development, but Akshay Kumar will not be returning. Ranveer Singh and Diljit Dosanjh are emerging as the top choices for the lead role.

New Delhi: Filmmaker Shailendra Singh has confirmed that Ranveer Singh is the leading frontrunner for the starring role in the much awaited sequel of the 2008 hit ‘Singh Is Kinng’. After the huge success of the Anees Bazmee-directed original, Akshay Kumar reprised his famous Sardaar role in Prabhu Deva-directed 2015 sequel, ‘Singh Is Bliing’.

Filmmaker Shailendra Singh told Mid-Day, “After 12 years of going back and forth with Vipul and Akshay, I finally got the title three years ago. I have started the process of (making) Singh Is Kinng 2."

‘Singh Is Kinng 2’ is anticipated to be released in 2026, with production slated to begin in October 2025. Shailendra said, “I will begin production from October 2025 so that I can release it in 2026.”

The producers are interested in introducing a new protagonist and have decided that Akshay Kumar will not reprise his role as Happy Singh. Shailendra has said that Ranveer Singh would be an ideal leading man. "His energy, cheekiness, and fun align perfectly with the character," he shared.

The filmmaker added, “We reached out to his manager on Saturday. His energy, cheekiness and fun fit the character. Also, Ranveer has never played a Sardar before."
Shailendra Singh also confirmed Diljit Dosanjh as his backup actor, saying, “If Ranveer doesn’t work out, then Diljit is my next choice.”

The title of the sequel has been decided upon by Shailendra; it will be either Singh Is Kinng 2 or Singh Is Kinng Returns. He also wants Priyadarshan or Anees Bazmee to helm the film.

About ‘Singh Is Kinng’

Anees Bazmee's 2008 film, the original Singh Is Kinng, was a huge commercial success. Starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Om Puri, Neha Dhupia, Jaaved Jaaferi, Ranvir Shorey, Kirron Kher, Sonu Sood, and Sudhanshu Pandey were the talented actors and actresses from the film. The plot centres on a Punjabi guy who, completely by accident, becomes a mob leader in Australia.
