'Bail Can Affect Investigations': Rhea, Brother Showik Chakraborty & 4 Others To Remain In Jail; Lawyer Says 'Course Of Action Next Week'

The Mumbai sessions Court rejected the bail plea of Rhea Chakraborty, brother Showik Chakraborty and 4 other accused in the drugs case. All the 6 accused to remain behind bars.

New Delhi: Mumbai Court announced the verdict on Rhea Chakraborty's bail plea on Friday. The Court dismissed the bail plea of the actress. The Mumbai session court has also dismissed Showik Chakraborty's bail plea and the other 4 accused in the drugs angle. The court has said that "at this crucial stage bail can't be granted to any of the 6 accused." The court further said, "Bail can influence the investigations in the case so at this stage bail can't be granted" Rhea Chakraborty's advocate Satish Manishinde has said that they will go for the next steps, which is to appeal in High Court in the next week or not. Rhea Chakraborty landed in more trouble after Rhea's brother Showik Chakraborty confessed that it was Rhea used to ask for dugs for herself. Rhea Chakraborty has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau for allegedly arranging drugs for late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She has been charged with abetment in possession, sale, purchase, consumption, transportation of substances under the NDPS Act. If found guilty, the actress may face a jail term up to 10 years. Both the actress and her brother have been arrested by the NCB and a special Mumbai Court will be hearing the bail plea filed by the actress by them today. The agency has already opposed the bail based on these grounds. NCB’s responded to the ‘Jalebi’ actress’ bail plea and said in its affidavit, “Rhea Chakraborty and Showik Chakraborty financed and arranged drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput and at his instructions...  as per a statement given by co-accused Dipesh Sawant, he used to procure drugs from other accused in the case on the instruction of Rajput and his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty.” After being arrested on Tuesday, Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty spent her night at NCB’s office in Mumbai. On Wednesday morning, she was moved to Byculla Jail by Narcotics Control Bureau officials. The Byculla jail is the only prison for women inmates in Mumbai. Also, the 'Chehre' actress in her plea stated that she is innocent, and accused NCB of forcing her to make 'self-incriminatory confessions' in the case. Meanwhile, the court has sent Rhea to judicial custody till September 22. If found guilty, the actress will face jail term up to ten years.
