Adipurush Box Office Collection Day 5: Prabhas, Kriti Sanon Starrer Witnesses Major Drop, Earns Rs 10.8 Crore

'Adipurush' has been the target of multiple protests in India because of its portrayal of the Ramayana.

New Delhi: The box office earnings for the movie 'Adipurush', starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, drastically dropped on day 5. After recording a phenomenal weekend haul, it dropped on Tuesday, with India collections across all languages reaching as little as Rs 10 crore nett.

'Adipurush', which had been directed by Om Raut, has been the target of multiple protests in India because of its portrayal of the Ramayana. The movie's earnings at the box office seems to have been hindered by the bad press it has received. For its dialogue and for giving the Hindu epic Ramayana a contemporary spin, the movie faced flak.

According to early estimates, the movie only made Rs 10.80 crore in India on Tuesday across all languages, as per a report on Sacnilk.com. The movie only made Rs 20 crore on Monday at the domestic box office after a weekend gross of Rs 220 crore. According to the production company T-Series, as of Monday, the movie reached a global total of Rs 375 crore.

Meanwhile, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) also urged him to "stop screening" the film and "immediately order a ban" on future Adipurush showings in theatres and on OTT platforms.

“Prabhu Shri Ram is God for everyone in India no matter what religious faith one comes from, this Movie Depicts lord Ram and even Ravan who looks like a Character of a video game, with dialogues hurting every Indian in the country and across the Globe. We request Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji order to stop screening this Movie and immediately order a Ban of Adipruush Screening in the Theatres and OTT platforms in the Future," the letter read.

Actor Dipika Chikhlia, who rose to fame for playing Goddess Sita in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan' 36 years ago, suggested filmmakers to refrain from creating fresh adaptations of the Ramayana every few years.

“Every time it is going to come back on screen, be it for TV or movie, it is going to have something which is going to hurt people because you are not going to make a replica of the Ramayana that we made," Chikhlia told PTI.
