Padmaavat MOVIE REVIEW: Ranveer Singh clearly steals the show from Deepika and Shahid in this magnum opus!

Movie: Padmaavat Star Cast: Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, Aditi Rao Hydari Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali Duration: 2 hours, 43 minutes Rating: 3/5 Stars Padmaavat has been surrounded in controversies from the past few weeks and once you watch the movie all these look pointless and pale! As expected from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, magnum opus 'Padmaavat' is grand, beautiful, enriching and a bit lengthy at the same time, the movie is releasing worldwide today and here's the full movie review. Shahid-Deepika make a royal couple in the movie Shahid-Deepika make a royal couple in the movie STORY: Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor), is known for her enchanting beauty in 13th century India. She captures the fancy of the tyrant Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), the reigning Sultan of Delhi, who becomes obsessed with her upon hearing about her mesmerizing looks and goes to great lengths to fulfill his greed and desire to capture Rani Padmavati. REVIEW: Based on a Sufi poem of the same name written in 1540 by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again proves that he is the master of grandeur cinema. This is his third collaboration with actors- Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone after 'Raamleela' and 'Bajirao Mastani' and once again the trio gave us a visual extravaganza. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's interpretation to 'Padmaavat', is no less than a royal-tale and you just bask in its luminescence till the climax scene. Padmaavat MOVIE REVIEW: Ranveer Singh clearly steals the show from Deepika and Shahid in this magnum opus! Deepika as Rani Padmaavati The movie showcases the bravery of the Rajputs in the best possible way by weaving it in a simple love-story between a king and his queen. Every scene in the movie is just spectacular and magnificent. From larger than life sets to perfect locations, dialogues and royal costumes the movie has everything that you expect from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. However this time he lacks in the narration as 'Padmavaat' is too slow and a bit lengthy that might bore you in few scenes. But then you have Ranveer Singh and with his electrifying presence on screen as evil king, the actor just charges up the audience mood! The movie is predictable and you what is going to happen next yet Bhansali's vision of this larger-than-life retelling captures the essence. ACTING: Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the barbaric Sultan is clearly the real star of the movie and completely owns 'Padmaavat' . The actor is in terrific form and has brilliantly portrayed the evil character on screen. You would love to hate him onscreen, the way he shows his obsession for queen Padmaavati will leave you spellbound. His kohl-lined eyes, pig tailed hair and a greased torso makes him look like every inch of a ruthless king! Don't get shocked if Ranveer sweeps away all the awards next year. Various shares of Ranveer Singh as Khilji in the movie [pic credit: twitter] Various shares of Ranveer Singh as Khilji in the movie [pic credit: twitter]Deepika has completely justified her character of brave and mesmerizing queen Padmaavati. The actress looks like an epitome of beauty and charm in the movie. Deepika as the fiery queen of Chittor stands tall, speaks with her eyes and breathes fire when needed, however she looks dimmer when compared to Ranveer Singh. For all those who underrated Shahid Kapoor in the movie, the actor perfectly depicts Maharawal Ratan Singh - the ruler of Mewar, on screen. Shahid brings a regal aura to the character and as done full justice to his role. His chemistry with Deepika too is crackling and full marks to Shahid for glorifying Rajput pride on screen. 'Neerja' movie actor Jim Sarbh is the surprise package in the movie, you hated him as a terrorist in the Sonam Kapoor starrer but you will love him as Khilji's slave in 'Padmaavat'. Sarbh plays Malik Kafur, the male love interest and personal slave of Alauddin Khilji, and from his accent to mannerisms and expressions the actor garners complete attention while sharing space with Ranveer and is simply brilliant in the film. Aditi Rao Hydari and Raza Murad look convincing in their special appearance roles. MUSIC: Music by Sanjay Bhansali is average, however the background score blends well with the movie . While ‘Ghoomar’,’Ek Dil Ek Jaan’ are visually appealing, Ranveer’s dance number ‘Khalbali’ reminds us of Bajirao Mastani’s ‘Malhari’. Overall, the movie is a bit dragged but gripping at the same time, I wish the film would have been a little shorter, but Padmaavat is definitely worth a watch, for its stellar performances and visual brilliance.
