Khandwa remembers Kishore da on his birth anniversary
Very few people know that Kishore Kumar was not only a singer. He was a complete package in himself.
New Delhi: On the 88th birth anniversary of legendary singer Kishore Kumar, the people of Khandwa, his hometown, pay tribute to the singer at his ancestral place.
His fans paid tributes at his memorial in the town, making offerings of 'doodh jalebi', which was his favourite dish. A few of his popular songs were also sung.
Kumar was born here on August 4, 1929 and spent his childhood years in Khandwa before shifting to Mumbai.
"He didn't forget his birthplace, and often said 'Doodh jalebi khayenge, Khandwa me bas jayenge' (will have milk-with-jalebi and settle down in Khandwa)," reminisced a fan named Milin Mishra.
Apart from acting and directing films, Kumar lent his versatile voice to several stars, from Dev Anand to Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan.

For over three decades his voice ruled the hearts of Indian audience. Although many of us remember him for his phenomenal songs, very few know that Kishore Kumar was a complete package in himself. He was a singer, actor, lyricist, composer, producer, director, and screenwriter. In films like Naukri, Asha, Chalti ka Naam Gaadi, New Delhi, Ganga Ki Lehren and Padosan, Kishore Kumar had proved his acting skills.
Kumar won 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and holds the record for winning the most Filmfare Awards in that category. Today there is an award on his name "kishore Kumar Award" introduced by Madhya Pradesh government.
Kumar's personal life was full of ups and downs. He married four times. He was married to Ruma Guha Thakurta, Madhubala, Yogita Bali and Leena Chandavarkar.
His was the voice that defined retro music..the voice that still echoes in the hearts of millions of Indians.
