After much speculation surrounding Fahadh Faasil’s collaboration with director Imtiaz Ali, the filmmaker has officially confirmed the project. Speaking during a directors' roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India, Imtiaz not only validated the news but also disclosed the film’s title—’The Idiot of Istanbul’.
Imtiaz Ali confirms film with Fahadh Faasil
When asked about the project, Imtiaz shared, “This announcement is out, but it’s like a little ahead of its time. There is a movie, but I don’t know, it might not be the next one up. But, yes, I’ve been trying to make this film for a long time. It’s called The Idiot of Istanbul.”
On whether Fahadh Faasil will take on the lead role, Imtiaz said, “I would like it…yeah. I would love to do this. And now, since you’ve cornered me, I don’t know why I’m not supposed to say this. But yes, my plan is to make this film with Fahadh.”
If everything goes as planned, this film will mark Fahadh’s foray into Hindi cinema. Known for his preference to focus on Malayalam films, the actor has recently ventured into Tamil and Telugu industries, showcasing his versatility.
Imtiaz's last project
Imtiaz, who previously directed the Netflix hit ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is looking to bounce back after the lukewarm reception of his 2020 film 'Love Aaj Kal’, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan. While details about his next venture remain under wraps, The Idiot of Istanbul could be a significant milestone in his filmography.
Fahadh's recent and upcoming films
As for Fahadh, the actor has had a packed year with notable performances in Aavesham and Bougainvillea in Malayalam, Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth in Tamil, and Pushpa 2: The Rule with Allu Arjun in Telugu. His upcoming projects include Don't Trouble the Trouble and Oxygen in Telugu, as well as Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira and Karate Chandran in Malayalam.
